I finally talked to our neighbor today. They are an older Puerto Rican couple who have the most wonderful garden. We’ve had brief conversations with them before (mostly about how Hazel barks at them all the time and we feel bad), but this is the first time I actually talked to her .

Apparently they’ve lived in their house 36 years. I asked her if she would mind if we had chickens and she said that she wold love it. When she moved in she had horses and chickens in her yard. Horses! I guess at some point the people living on the other side of her called the city and she had to get rid of them, but they’ve since moved out so that shouldn’t be an issue.

She also told me that she grows the fruit trees in her yard by starting with cuttings from other trees. That takes some serious dedication to your land.

And she thinks there might be garlic buried in the far corner of our yard that she gave to someone who was renting before. She seemed thrilled that we bought the house so we’d be around awhile.

It’s nice having good neighbors.

Chickens! I am so jealous. It is fun to talk to neighbors and find out that they’re good people. But from my limited experience, most people are good. :0)

Katie, You’re totally right. Most people are good. I’ve had some funky neighbors though, so I’m happy to have nice ones 🙂
