Just like all second children, I’ve been a bad mother in terms of documenting their arrival with the same gusto I did with the first set of chicks. Sooo, I give you Wynona (Nona) the Ameracuna, and Emma, the Buff Orpington.
Nona will grow up to be a colorful chicken who lays either blue or green eggs. The whole Ameracuna, Aracuna, Easter Egger breed is all mixed up so you never really know what you are going to get.
Emma will grow up to be yellow, fat, and fluffy. Buff Orpingtons are known for having enormous butts of yellow fluff. Look it up if you don’t believe me!
And, the first set of chicks is one week old today! Here they all are together.
I’ll leave you with a Hazel shot, because she has been very, very good with the chicks so far. Her food is in the same room as the chicks so she normally tries to get in there all the time, but she’s been avoiding that room entirely. We had one walk around the room the other day to see what she would do and she just went to the other side of the room and fell asleep.
On the other hand, she does seem annoyed when we spend too long in the room with the chicks and we find her on the couch, looking sad, with her leash next to her.
