So I know it wasn’t too long ago when I was about thisclose to ditching Hazel by the side of the road somewhere.  But as an update, she’s SO much better now.  Like she’s actually an enjoyable dog and member of the household.  So much so, that we are seriously considering getting a second dog.  Because dogs are like tattoos–you can’t stop at one.  And also, we think Hazel gets bored during the day and this might be a good strategy to entertain her.

Anyway, we are looking at a dog this weekend.  He’s pretty much ours if we want him (and Hazel doesn’t eat him).  He’s younger than we were thinking of going, but he’s crate/potty trained, knows basic commands (sit/come/etc), and he’s pretty cute.

We’ll see…You all can tell me I’m crazy and then tell me you told me so when I’m posting a plea for help in a few months.

First of all, that’s awesome that Hazel is better now. My life with two dogs (one a biter, the other destructive) has not improved one whit despite hiring an expensive dog trainer. What did you do to make it better?

Also, I just want to put in my two cents on the potential pitfalls of having two dogs: 1. the costs of dog ownership are automatically doubled which can get expensive. 2. when you have two dogs they playfight all the time…which can be really annoying in a small home. 3. it’s more of a burden asking friends/family to take care of two dogs versus just one. 4. having another dog to play with all day does not stop my energetic puppy from getting bored and chewing the hell out of our home.

Think about everything you’ve had to do for Hazel the past few years, and then imagine if you had to do it twice at the same time. I neglected to realize that twice the dogs is twice the poo which takes twice the time to clean up. Plus, sometimes you come home and don’t know which one to punish for the new brand of catastrophe one manages to conjure up.

Also, my dogs tended to rile each other up rather then settling each other down. But! Also twice the love and twice the cuddles. Good luck!
