Frock by Friday

One of my goals for the year (or the last several years) has been to learn to sew things that I can actually wear.  I made a very easy, but slightly uncomfortable dress last year, but then got really busy with school over the fall & winter and didn’t make anything else.  One of the blogs I read (Grosgrain) has been featuring a monthly sew-along called “Frock by Friday” where she spends a week each month making a dress and taking readers through the process, step-by-step.  I loved the June pattern (actually a shirt pattern, altered), and it seemed simple enough, so I decided to go for it.

It’s not without imperfections (I have no idea how anyone sews the hem of a rounded item evenly), but for it being only the second item of clothing I’ve ever sewn I think it turned out really well.  I’ve worn it several times since I’ve finished it and it’s really dang comfortable.

The pattern was easy enough to follow that I think I might make the dress again and alter it a bit to fit a bit tighter on top and maybe change the sleeves up a bit.  But overall a fun pattern that I’ll definitely use again!

Umm, I have no idea how anyone sews anything! Officially adorable– Can I have one? Also, I love how the dogs are like your minions, awaiting orders from a crafty queen.

Morgan-The dogs are freaks. I was holding an unripe peach that they pulled off the tree in the front yard and they wanted it (bad).

I saw your dress on Grosgrain, and love it! But even more than the dress, I am enthralled with your outdoor daybed!!! It looks so heavenly! Love it!

It’s actually at my parent’s house so I can’t take any credit for it! My mom took an antique twin bed she had and stuck an old mattress on it with pillows along the back. Nothing too tricky!

That dress is great! I always wanted to sew for myself, but never quite had the courage to do it. But maybe I’ll give it a try!
