Open or closed?

May 13, 2011

This has been the week from kitchen fixing-upping hell.

Just for fun, this is what our kitchen looked like when we moved into our house.  Isn’t that a lovely shade of red?

Until recently it looked like this…It’s hard to tell from the picture but the cabinets were really stained and impossible to clean and wouldn’t stay shut (while the drawers didn’t really want to open).

The cabinet doors all came off, got sanded down and repainted with much more durable paint and new hardware.  They also open and close now.  Progress!

You will notice in this last picture that we have the door off the far cabinet.  We are thinking about leaving it that way.  Is that crazy?  I need outside opinions, because both P and I like it this way (open) and I think we might just be getting lazy.

PS-Disgusting floor is being fixed up with some snazzy floor stickers today.  I’ve heard great and not so great things about them, but we bought nicer ones and honestly they can’t be worse than what we’ve got going on now.

It looks so cute! The cupboard looks good without a door.

I vote open. I think it creates an illusion of symmetry with the open shelves on the left.

I like it open! Ideally it would be nice to have glass there, but who cares? I would love to stack all my pretty colored latte bowls for the world (or at least me) to see.

Open, definitely. Brandi is right about the symmetry.

BTW, I have some flattened computer shipping boxes you can use as moving boxes, if you want them?

I like it open because it balances out the other side shelves which are open. Your house is looking great!
