Cribs

February 14, 2012

Also, if it’s not clear that I’m totally trying to distract myself from studying for a test I have this afternoon/evening, here’s another post!

Paul and I are trying to decide between two cribs.

First we have the BabyMod crib from WalMart.  I know.  I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been into WalMart, but they happen to sell non-toxic, solid wood, kind of cute, cribs that aren’t $1000.  I like the color of the crib, I like that it turns into a toddler bed (important because we are going to sidecar it…ie. turn it into a co-sleeper), and I like that it doesn’t contain formaldehyde, apparently a common thing in baby cribs.  I don’t like that the ends are solid.  I know that’s sort of weird, but I feel like I’d like to be able to see into the crib from more angles.

The second crib is the Gulliver from Ikea.  Also affordable, open sides, and it also turns into a toddler bed.  Less into the color and while the sides are solid wood, the bottom (where the mattress sits) is press board, meaning formaldehyde potential.  I’m trying to figure out if we could figure out some other thing for the mattress to sit on without compromising the safety of the crib.

Any opinions (besides that cribs are baby cages and that I’m already losing my crunchy mom status by suggesting that we are buying one)?

If it helps your designy self imagine this in place, I’m in love with the Dwell woodland bedding, and this is our room currently…

The crib will live where my ice chest side table currently lives (and at some point we will get a real bed to go with our new mattress and give our futon back it’s frame).

Editing this to add a few more cribs that I think are possibilities…

The Baby Mod Olivia.  More expensive ($270), and P isn’t so into white cribs, but I think it’s cute and the wood matches the wood in our room.

And the BabyMod Modena crib in Espresso (same as the grey crib).

My DIY design 10 cents: I really like the grey one, but I think the wood one would look better in your room.

I like the white one with the wood bottom. It’s very cute!

I agree–Paul’s not going to like the white though… What do you think about the last one?
